Help for Haiti

Hey y'all! I have seen a few big name bloggers do this and I thought I would give it a shot. By no means do I think I am a big name blogger, in fact just the opposite. But I thought it would be a fun way to raise money for a good cause and help out our brothers and sisters in Haiti.

Spit it out already, you say?

OK, here goes...

For every comment I get on this post, here on the blog and on Facebook, Jeremy and I will donate $1 to either the Red Cross, Compassion International, or Samaritan's Purse. Only one comment per person, please. And you must comment no later than 10:00 PM, Colorado time, Sunday, January 17, 2010. Please comment and also vote on which of the three organizations I just listed we should donate to. The organization with the most votes wins! I am hoping this will bring any lurkers I may have out of hiding. And, just in case I only get 14 or 15 comments between the blog and Facebook combined, Jeremy and I reserve the right to decide to double or triple the amount as we see fit. All I need from you is a comment on this post. Pretty easy, right?

Let's review:

~ Comment on this post, either here or on Facebook
~ In your comment, vote for which of the three organizations should get our $$
~ Comment and vote by 10:00 PM Colorado time, Sunday, January 17, 2010
~ One comment per person, please

I will update Monday with the results.

So c'mon peeps! Let's reach out to Haiti in a tangible way! They definitely need your prayers but they also need monetary assistance.

Thanks and God Bless you!

This is a great idea! I'm not partial to any organization just as long as it gets to Haiti!

Red Cross would be my vote!

And, p.s., be my friend on facebook! Shauna Quintero

Great idea!!!!!

I've been talking to our boys about what we should do to help, but haven't come up with anything. Maybe I'll copy you, if you don't mind?

It is so sad thinking of all those people suffering right now! I was sitting down to dinner with my boys lastnight and talking to them about how blessed we are and that we never wonder where are next meal is coming from, let alone having to go through such a huge disaster! My heart and prayers are going out to this country big time! Those poor children and families!

Anyway, great job trying to help!!!

I'd vote for the Red Cross as well!

Thanks for inspiring me this morning! Love and Hugs!!!

Well, it was a toss up between Samaritan's Purse and the Red Cross...both of which donate 90% of a contribution to the relief itself. SO.........since everyone seems to be going towards the Red Cross....my vote will be........................................................RED CROSS!
What a wonderful idea. Thanks for your help...I'm sure Larry & I will also be donating through UMCOR (United Methodist Committee On Relief) through the church. Any donation of any kind or any amount will help.
Love,
Nana & PaPa

From someone who used to live in Haiti and do missionary work there I would recommend a smaller organization right in PAP. Your money will go directly to the relief effort. Some reputable organizations that I know of personally are Heartline Ministries (www.heartlineministries.org) and God's Littlest Angels (www.gla-missions.org). They are both in desperate need right now as they trip and help the people of Haiti.r

Hi Marissa and family! My name is Sarah and I'm a long-time follower of your blog but a first-time commenter. I'm a college student who works with special needs kids. I also follow more than 200 blogs, and I'm sending a very special message to all the blogs I follow: YOU have the chance to be part of a miracle!

If you are a member of Facebook or know someone who is, please take the chance to do something incredible!

Chase Community Giving is awarding $1 million to 5 charities! The Gwendolyn Strong Foundation is working to find a cure for Spinal Muscular Atrophy - and they could use the money!

Fast Facts:
- SMA is the #1 genetic killer of infants under the age of 2
- 50% of those diagnosed will not live to see their 2nd birthday
- kids with SMA lose the ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, eat, swallow, and breathe
- 1 in 40 people is a carrier
- the National Institute of Health says that SMA is the #1 CURABLE disease if given research funding
- right now there is NO cure and NO treatment

Want to change that? Vote for the Gwendolyn Strong Foundation on the Chase Community Giving app on Facebook! You have five votes to tell the world that you want a CURE for SMA!

Tell your friends and blog contacts - let them know they could be part of a MIRACLE - be part of a CURE - and give these kids a FUTURE!

Thank you!

My dollar is for Compassion International!

You guys rock! My vote is for Compassion International because they have been in Haiti for 40 years and are well established. They have 240ish churches there so people know where to go for help. Dan Woolley who was rescued from the big hotel there goes to our church. Today they had a great video showing all about it and about how to help. Wanna hear something cool? While Dan was trapped he talked with another Haitian man in the elevator next to him. During this time, the Haitian man put his faith in Christ and in now a Christian! Wow!
