Swimming!!

Or actually, more like wading. But the concept is the same. The classic summer way to cool down and have fun at the same time.

This is Marissa's fourth time "swimming". The first time was last summer and she had a great time. The next two times after that were disastrous, so we decided to put the pool away for the season and try again next year. Well, it is now next year and, last weekend we decided to give it another go. I think it was a success and we are hoping that she is now old enough, she will continue to have a good time when we try it again.

Of course, for trach kids, certain activities such as swimming and playing in the sand can be dangerous. But we feel, with the proper supervision and the right amount of care, Marissa should be able to enjoy "swimming" with no problem, as long as she does not submerge from the chest up.

So, I know I have made a lot of montages lately. But this one is so fun and I just couldn't resist. Plus you all seem to dig them, so enjoy!!

Oh, and to address some of the curiosity surrounding the sunglasses Marissa wears, I don't know why she keeps them on. She LOVES to go outside and I think she thinks that, to go outside, she has to wear her sunglasses. Maybe she thinks it is just part of playing outside. She also has blue eyes that let in more light, so maybe she feels she needs them. Then again, she also asks for her sunglasses when we take her outside in the evening and she really does not need them. Who knows, but whatever the reason, I'll take it!

Hey, I don't know where you find the music for your mantages, but this one was PERFECT!! I'm so glad Marissa can experience this part of summer...swimming. And she is, of course, so CUTE in her bathing suit and sunglasses! The perfect summer attire! Love you guys....

Looks like fun! For trached kids, even a bath can mean trouble (like the ONE time I let Lily take a bath with her sisters while she still had her trach--she was so excited she practically undressed herSELF just watching them in the tub). We used to take Lily swimming, to the lake, and all that. You have to be even more cautious than you would with the average child, but the sensory advantages are tremendous for them! Good for you, and good for Marissa too!

She looks like she's having a blast....we will have to take Isaac out in his baby pool again soon. The things people take for granted like having your child in a swimming pool...we have a reason to celebrate!

I completely agree! Let her swim! We can supervise. She should enjoy as much of the same perks as any other kid!
